The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (IECMHC) supports the mission of People's Community Clinic by supporting caregivers of young children, early childhood staff, and pediatric staff. The IECMHC works conjointly within the pediatric department to promote healthy relationships, foster positive parenting, strengthen early social and emotional development, and ensure access to services to address both child and family needs. 

 

The starting Salary range for this position is between $68,000 - $72,000 annually. 

Responsibilities

  • Establish strong working relationships with partners in the community; set the tone and foundation for IECMHC to be grounded in strong, healthy relationships.
  • Develop and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with Early Childhood program Directors and staff in the community.
  • Develop and facilitate mental health and child development training, education, or psychoeducation groups for children, parents, and/or Early Childhood professionals as needed.
  • Provide reflective consultation to professional adults working with young children as needed, individually and in group format.
  • Provide support and crisis intervention to families and children involved with the program.
  • Provide parent education and support within well-child check appointments regarding parental concerns about children’s behavioral issues.
  • Participate in marketing and community outreach activities as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive assessments and treatment planning with measurable objectives, as needed.
  • Coordinate and monitor intra-agency and community-based referrals for evaluations, consultation, preschool, and other services.
  • Support leadership and staff in understanding the power of relationships, the importance of self-awareness, the impact of trauma and adverse experiences, including discrimination and exclusionary practices, and how leaders can support staff and the agency.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt and tailor IECMHC services to meet the unique needs of children, families, and programs representing varied and diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Participate in reflective supervision in relation to IECMHC services and practice.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate degree in social work, counseling or psychology

Experience:

  • At least two years’ experience working with children and families.
  • Experience providing training or professional development to adults of various learning styles.
  • Background including healthcare and nonprofit experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated high proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-point
  • Ability to interact successfully with people of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of education

 

Certificate/License:  

  • CPR and First Aid Certification necessary, but can be obtained at the clinic if hired.
  • Driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must have a License or be licensed eligible in a mental health field including counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, and social work.
