Patient Service Representative (PSR) supports the mission of People's Community Clinic (PCC) by helping coordinate the flow of patients through the front office in a manner that reflects superior customer service and ensures timely patient care. PSRs work collaboratively with all internal and external customers in compliance with each of the PCC core values.

 

Location: 1101 Camino La Costa Austin, TX 78752 (North Clinic)

Hourly Pay Rate Range: $15.00 - $17.50 

Hours (Full Time): Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

 

 

This position works as a member of a care team to coordinate patient care and support patients and families in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Care team members are expected to assess and manage the health needs of the patient population and to communicate effectively with all patients.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Patient Services Supervisor, this individual’s primary job responsibilities include:


• Greet patients promptly upon their arrival at the clinic utilizing excellent customer service
• Complete entire check-in process as patients arrives in a timely, efficient manner and monitor daily appointment schedules
• Thoroughly review and update patient demographics, consents, insurance and income
• Ensure patient is screened by financial counselors if applicable
• Anticipate needs associated with all same-day visits (i.e. registration including insurance verification is completed)
• Maintain a well-organized work area
• Complete entire check out process
• Communicate effectively with back-office support staff and other departments
• Function well as a team with the flexibility to adapt to daily changes in routine or assignments
• Monitor wait times in the waiting area and communicate delays to the patient and clinical staff
• Manage late arriving patients per policy and no-show appointments as appropriate
• Collect co-pay and accurately reconcile daily cash
• Comply with all front office policies and procedures
• Process medical records release requests
• Comply with attendance and punctuality requirements. Equipment is turned on and is prepared for the workday at start of shift.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma/GED required. Some college preferred.

Experience: Two years of experience working in a physician’s office or healthcare facility; Experience with medical billing and/or collections preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred)
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Basic computer literacy
• Working knowledge of electronic medical records and practice management systems.
• Ability to multi-task in a high change environment
• Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively and meet deadlines

Physical Requirements:
• Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
• Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
• Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
• Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted throughout the regular workday.

 Occasional overtime and/or weekend hours may be required.

 

OSHA category for blood-borne pathogens for this position is II: Involves possible exposure to blood or body fluids.
