People’s Community Clinic is seeking a proactive and compassionate Community Advocacy and Resources Intern who excels in fast-paced environments. The Community Advocacy and Resources Team, responsible for Community Education, Community Awareness, Resource Development, and Community Engagement, is seeking an individual to join their mission. The Community Advocacy and Resources Intern will assume a pivotal role by supporting team initiatives, aiding in program planning and execution, and providing administrative and analytical assistance.

 

OBJECTIVE: The core objective of the Community Advocacy and Resources Intern is to actively promote community awareness, facilitate engagement, and provide essential support to the team's initiatives.

 

This position is available to students who qualify for Work-Study through their university, where we are an approved Work-Study site. 

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a Social Needs and Partnerships Program Manager this individual’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Using SDOH screening to build a foundation that allows the student to work at the individual level (to improve outcomes) and interface at the community level to work on upstream determinants of health (where the individual lives).
  • Referring patients and community members to resources and programmatic partners who can assist them, as needed, with support for basic needs.
  • Compile essential community resources, including voting information and social needs resources.
  • Assist in promoting the mission of People’s Community Clinic and actively engage with the local community through outreach.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and management of events hosted or attended by Community Health Workers.
  • Collaborate with the team to conceptualize and innovate new community engagement strategies.
  • Aid in processing donations for the Austin Diaper Bank and provide support in managing the patient food pantry.
  • Advocate and organize to support individual and community health needs.

Qualifications

Education: Pursuing degrees in social work, sociology, or public health from an accredited university affiliated with People’s Community Clinic.

Experience: No previous work experience required, but a demonstrated passion for community advocacy and engagement is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms for marketing purposes.
  • Basic understanding of community engagement and awareness strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in event planning or community outreach.
  • Multilingual abilities to better serve diverse patient populations
