We are seeking a Financial Counseling Intern to support the Financial Counseling (FC) team in ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care by facilitating necessary insurance PCP changes. This role is critical in streamlining the referral process, ensuring that patients can see specialists as recommended by their primary care provider. By assisting with these tasks, the intern will contribute to improving patient access to care and the overall efficiency of the Financial Counseling team.

 

OBJECTIVE:  Assist and contribute to ensuring that patients have timely access to care at People’s Community Clinic.

 

Opportunity available to Plan II students through partnerships with UT.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Financial Counseling Supervisor, this individual’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Financial Counseling team with insurance primary care provider (PCP) changes.
  • Make conference calls to patients and their insurance plans to request a PCP change to a PCC provider.
  • Obtain and document reference numbers for completed PCP changes.
  • Ensure PCP changes are completed before patients' specialist appointments.
  • Support the FC team with administrative tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

Education:  Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university, preferably in a related field such as Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Social Work, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role is preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or familiarity with health insurance processes is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bilingual: Proficiency in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying educational levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
