Overview

Lactation Consultant

 

If you have a passion for women's health and child development, then you are in the right place. Here at People’s Community Clinic, we are looking for a driven volunteer who will assist our Lactation Consultant with organizing feeding resources for our staff and patients. The volunteer will have the opportunity to support the Lactation Consultant with different projects throughout the semester that empower self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change with the patient populations we serve.

 

OBJECTIVE: The Lactation Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Lactation Consultant in organizing and facilitating breastfeeding sessions, ensuring a smooth experience for both staff and patients.

 

This position is available to students who qualify for Work-Study through their university, where we are an approved Work-Study site. 

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Lactation Consultant at PCC, this individual’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist with lactation education and consultation under the supervision and training of lactation consultant.
  • Contact patients and provide them with essential information for upcoming lactation sessions and support resources.
  • Assist the Lactation Consultant with maintaining the supply inventory for breastfeeding sessions.
  • Ensure the lactation space is properly set up and prepared for each patient.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and generate written materials for the breastfeeding program.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating breastfeeding events.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Lactation Consultant.

Qualifications

Education:  Pursuing degrees in social work, sociology, early education, or child development, pre-med from an accredited university affiliated with People’s Community Clinic.

 

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; training will be provided.
  • Commitment to prenatal education and reproductive health.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Bilingual, Spanish and English proficient.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to interact successfully with people of different cultures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or volunteer role related to reproductive health or child development.
  • Basic understanding of breastfeeding principles and techniques.
